DYHA Refund Policy

DYHA Refund Policy

The Refund Policy will be applied strictly to all registrants.

1.    Travel Try-Out Registration Fee:

a. Returning players and players invited from the Waitlist trying out for travel teams will pay a non-refundable and non-transferable Registration Fee:

  • A portion of the Registration fee is a Tryout Fee
  • The remainder of the fee is a Deposit applied to the Travel Team Tuition if the player makes a travel team, or to the House League Tuition if the player does not make a travel team or chooses to not accept an invitation to join a travel team.

b.    All Goalies or Skaters trying out as Impact players or for Midgets, U14 Girls, U16 Girls, U19 Girls Travel teams or New Canaan Winter Club Members trying out for Ice Cats Travel will pay only a Tryout Fee until they accept an invitation to play for a travel team.

The Tryout Fee is always non-refundable and non-transferable

2.   Travel Player Tuition Refund Request:

a.    No portion of the non-refundable Registration and Tryout Fees will be refunded or transferred to another player in the program.

b.    Aside from “special exceptions” (see #7 below), for a rostered player/in an executed Travel Commitment Letter, no portion of the tuition or any other fee paid or payable by a player rostered to play for a travel team will be refunded (or forgiven if unpaid).  A player is considered rostered when the player is selected for the travel team and executes the Travel Commitment Letter.

3.   House Player Tuition Refund Request:

a.    Refund requests from House players MUST BE REQUESTED by June 1 of the current registration year, and made via email to the DYHA Treasurer.

b.    Refund requests from House players made by June 1 will be granted and reimbursed in the amount of 50% of the House League Fee paid (less a 3% processing fee)

c.    HOWEVER, a house player who tried out for travel and paid the non-refundable Registration Fee will receive (or, if unpaid, will be forgiven for) 50% of the difference between the House League Fee and the Registration Fee (less a 3% processing fee).

4. Bantam Players Making High School Teams:

a.   Registered players who lose their eligibility by playing for their CIAC high school hockey team are eligible for a refund amount of 50% of all amounts paid in excess of the Tryout Fee (less a 3% processing fee), if they relinquish their spot on the DYHA team.

5. DYHA/Ice Cats Injured Player Refund:

a.   In the event a player incurs an injury that renders the player unable to play for the remainder of the player’s team’s season (a “season ending hockey injury”), the player may be eligible for a refund of the registration fee and travel tuition.

b.   Refunds will be in the form of a credit to be applied to future registration fees and travel tuitions. The credit can only be applied to the account of the injured player.

c.    The amount of the refund for which the player may be eligible will be based on the date the player notifies DYHA he/she does not intend to return to play and provides the required physician’s documentation that the player has incurred a season ending hockey injury:

  • Prior to the start of the season – 100%
  • Prior to November 30th – 50%
  • On or after November 30th – 0%

d.   In order to be eligible for a credit, the player will need to provide written documentation from a physician stating the player has suffered a “season ending injury” and cannot return to play. Credits may only be granted if the player’s account is in good standing and is paid in full.

e.   In order to try out for the next season after a “season ending injury”, the player must provide a “clear to participate in the sport of hockey” letter from the player’s physician prior to being allowed on the ice for tryouts.

f.     The DYHA Board of Directors reserves the right to review all requests for refund or credit based on injury to consider, among other things, compliance with this policy and extraordinary circumstances, at its sole discretion.

 6.  Special Exceptions

DYHA will consider, at its sole discretion, a request for a “special exception” refund or forgiveness of fees (other than Tryout Fees) based on extraordinary circumstances.  Please note that deciding not to play in the DYHA Program, whether house or travel, or to play at another program, is not considered an extraordinary circumstance warranting a “special exception” refund.

Requests for refunds or credits as allowed per the details of this policy must be made via email to the DYHA Treasurer. If a refund request is approved, members will be notified and have the following options with respect to such approved request:

  • Account Credit – Credit towards the next season’s tuitions for the skater/member’s account
  • Refund - Refund to your credit card or by check (less a 3% processing fee). Refunds will be processed and paid in approximately 4 to 6 weeks from the date of the approval of the request.
  • Donation to Coach – Donate some or all of your refund to your team’s coach(es)
  • Tax-deductible donation to Friends of DYHA - Donate your refundable balance in lieu of a credit or refund. For information on Friends of DYHA's mission, please visit www.dyha.com.
